Geothermal Heating & Cooling in Cleveland

Serving Summit County, OH

A geothermal heat pump taps into the free renewable solar energy stored in your own backyard, making it one of the greenest, most efficient and cost-effective heating and cooling systems available.

What’s really impressive is the level of comfort a geothermal heating & cooling system provides. Despite Northeast Ohio’s huge weather fluctuations, the ground remains a fairly consistent 54 degrees all year long because it absorbs energy from the sun. Geothermal systems utilize this free source of energy to operate, keeping your home consistently comfortable all year round.

Why Geothermal?

Comfortable

Geothermal systems are designed to operate for longer periods at lower speeds, saving you a bundle on your energy expenses and making your home consistently comfortable all year round.

Good Financial Investment

Most geothermal systems will end up paying for themselves in as little as three to five years because of their substantially lower operating costs, saving home and business owners as much as 70% on their utility bills. Over time, the amount of energy savings geothermal systems produce will eventually exceed the cost of the system installation.  Combine these long-term savings with the government tax credits, and it makes for a smart investment.

Environmentally Friendly

Geothermal systems are recognized by the United States Environmental Protection Agency as the most environmentally friendly, cost effective and energy efficient heating and cooling technologies available.  They do not offer the same threats associated with burning fossil fuels such as acid rain, air pollution, the greenhouse effect and global warming. In fact, installing a single geothermal unit is the environmental equivalent of planting 750 trees.

Versatile

One unit provides heating, air conditioning, and supplemental domestic hot water for your entire home. Horizontal, vertical, and bottom-flow configurations are available for the widest range of home applications, including new construction as well as existing homes.

Reliable

Geothermal units aren’t subjected to the wear and tear caused by extreme outdoor weather conditions or fuel combustion, so they last longer than nearly any other heating and cooling system on the market. Geothermal systems have an average equipment life of 25 years while the underground loop system has a rated material life of more than 100 years. More traditional air conditioners, furnaces and heat pumps have an average life expectancy of 12-15 years with regular maintenance.

Air Quality

Geothermal systems offer ideal dehumidification and air purification, thus improving the quality of your indoor air. Also, since geothermal systems don’t recycle air, those in the home that suffer from respiratory ailments, asthma or seasonal allergies will breathe a little easier.

It Pays to Go Geothermal, Take Advantage of 26% Federal Tax Credit

Federal tax credits on installing a qualifying geothermal heating and cooling system have been extended through December 31, 2021, with a planned phase-out.

  • 30% Tax Credit through 2019
  • 26% Tax Credit through 2020
  • 22% Tax Credit through 2021

What’s Eligible for the Tax Credit?

Geothermal equipment that uses the stored solar energy from the ground for heating and cooling and that meets ENERGY STAR requirements at the time of installation is eligible for the tax credit. Covered expenditures include labor for onsite preparation, assembly, or original system installation and for piping or wiring to connect a system to the home. The structure must be located in the United States and used as a residence by the taxpayer, although primary residency isn’t required.

How to Claim?

Use IRS Form 5695 to claim the Residential Energy Efficient Property Credit. For property placed in service after 2009 there’s no limit on the credit amount. The tax credit can be used to offset both regular income taxes and alternative minimum taxes (AMT). If the federal tax credit exceeds tax liability, the excess amount may be carried forward into future years. Spending on geothermal heat pump property adds to your home’s cost basis but also must be reduced by the amount of the tax credit received.
