Turn Off the Water
Before you leave, remember to turn off the main water line to relieve pressure within your plumbing. If you do decide to do so, remember to also turn off your water heater as well.
Install a Wi-Fi Thermostat
Wi-Fi thermostats are perfect for snowbirds. These digital controls connect to your smartphone through an app, where you can monitor and control your home’s indoor temperature. This is great for snowstorms, below freezing temperatures or warmer winter days. You can ensure your home is prepared for anything that happens right from your smartphone!
Carbon Monoxide & Smoke Detectors
Before you leave for the winter remember to change the batteries in your carbon monoxide and smoke detectors to keep your home safe. If your detectors are more than two years old, we strongly recommend upgrading to digital ones. Similar to the Wi-Fi thermostats, these detectors are synced with your smartphone through an app, where you can monitor around the clock. These apps will notify you if it senses unsafe levels or smoke.
